The United State Representative from New York had been slammed by Republicans and business leaders shortly after an interview where she doubted on whether rampant smash-and-grabs are actually happening.
According to AOC in her statement, “A lot of these allegations of organized retail theft are not actually happening.” He further said “it is my believe that a Walgreens in California stated it but there wasn’t an evidence.”
The comments cause pushback from many retailers and GOP lawmakers, including from the Walgreens.
According to Walgreens, “Organized retail crime is one of the big challenges facing the Company.”
“I don’t know what evidence she is talking about,” Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois Republican said during an interview referring to the statement made by AOC. He speaks further “But you don’t really need much evidence from someplace in San Francisco or California all you need to do is walk down the street to the CVS in Eastern Market, I’ve seen many occasions when I’ve been there buying things, someone will come in and raid a shelf and walk out.” Illinois Rep of Republican added.
According to Indiana Republican Rep. Jim Banks made it know that Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were “tone-deaf and offensive” to the family of Kevin Nishita. A former San Jose police officer was also killed in November when he was defending a news crew who are reporting a smash-and-grab crime.
