Pothole particles causes closure of southbound lanes on I-5 in Glendale

A number of lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway in Glendale have been shut down for a number of hours Saturday night after particles fell from an overpass onto the roadway.

Items of concrete fell from the overpass onto the freeway close to Western Avenue, stated Sgt. Victor Jackson, a spokesman for the Glendale Police Division.

Eric Menjivar, a spokesman for CalTrans, stated the supply of the particles was a pothole on the overpass. Crews have been working to restore the pothole Saturday night time.

The California Freeway Patrol issued a Sigalert and blocked all southbound lanes round 6 p.m., diverting visitors to Western Avenue, stated CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig.

Round 8 p.m., the HOV and No. 1 lanes have been reopened, whereas the two, 3 and 4 lanes remained blocked, Kravig stated. The Western Avenue onramp was nonetheless closed, she added.

No automobiles have been struck by the particles, and nobody was injured, Kravig stated.
